Work smarter, not harder with Smart Charting
If you made it to our Smart Charting Webinar, you know that there is SO much fun to be had when it comes to Charting in Jane. Your charts will almost be writing themselves once you’ve mastered Smart Charting 🔏 Okay, okay, maybe we’re getting a little carried away… but if you made it to the Webinar you’ll understand why! Before we dive in, let’s introduce our hosts

When it comes to Charting, Jane’s goal is to get you away from your computer and back to your patients as quickly as possible by being:
- Customizable: chart however works best for you with a wide array of charting styles and options to choose from
- Quick: create customized quick-key shortcuts, write full sentences with a few clicks, and even dictate directly into any note field!
- Compliant: privacy and security are always top-of-mind at Jane. That’s why we’ve worked hard to ensure our EMR features are HIPAA, PIPEDA, and GDPR compliant.

Here is what attendees were asking about Smart Charting:
Q: I take pictures of my clients to track their progress. Can I take a picture for the chart without having it dave on my phone?
A: You bet! This is one of our favourite Charting features. There are 3 Chart Parts that will let you do this: the Body Chart, the Sketch pad, and File/Image. From a mobile device or tablet, you can hit “Choose Image” and a dropdown menu will open giving you the option to Take Photo or Video. When you use that, the image will upload directly to Jane!
Q: Phrases are the best, but I can’t get them to work on my phone or tablet. How can I enable them for my phone?
A: At present, phrases are only functional on your computers. Keep an eye out though! We’re always working on improving Jane and a little birdie told me Phrases are coming to mobile very soon.
Q: Are there options to bold text or change the colour for emphasis?
A: Another great question and one of our most popular feature requests! The ability to bold, italicize, underline, etc. is called ‘Rich Text’ and Jane isn’t currently compatible with this. We’ve also been hearing some serious rumblings from our dev team about this one, so stay tuned!
Q: Can we email a superbill as well? Individually and for the full year?
A: Yes! You are easily able to email an individual superbill to a patient directly from the Appointment Panel, using the dropdown arrow to the right of the Pay button. There is a way to export a batch of superbills for a patient, but it’s a little bit more involved. If you could send us an email to [email protected] we will be able to confirm the steps with you there.
Q: I need Billing and Diagnosis Codes in my chart note.
A: Billing and Diagnosis Codes can be viewed, added, or edited from the bottom of your Chart Note if it is attached to an appointment (this happens automatically if you’re charting from the Day View!). You can click the little blue text on the left-hand side that says “Edit Billing Codes” to open the section up. Alex does a great demo of this at 59:57 in the Webinar if you’d like to check it out.
Q: Can I upload a PDF to my Client’s chart?
A: For sure! If you choose the File/Image Chart Part you’ll be able to upload any PDFs you have saved to your device.
